It sits with him in the dust of despair, joins him in the school of affliction and sings with him as he celebrates the wonders of God’s Word. The psalmist was persecuted and oppressed by wicked men. He was often discouraged and sometimes depressed, yet he always found comfort and joy in God’s Word. Living the Word captures the psalmist’s love for the Word, and challenges the reader to make it his own. It journeys with him across the mountains and valleys of his earthly pilgrimage, and distills his wisdom into practical applications for daily living. Living the Word is the most phenomenal devotional I’ve experienced in 54 years of ministry. The organization of the material had to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. In addition, to the unique way the material is organized, Kelsey Garman’s insights provide a wonderful commentary on the Scripture. Anyone who reads this book will learn how to handle life God’s way rather than being handled by life. This is what they call a must read! Dr. Paul Collins, president The exposition is accurate, fresh, concise, warm-hearted, challenging, insightful and inspirational. For us “preacher brethren,” it is also very quotable. I love the author’s poetic lines after each verse. They do much to capture the sense of each one. Christians, young and old, will be greatly edified as they read Psalm 119 along with Living the Word. One cannot read it without falling in love with the Word of God all over again, and without having a deeper longing to put its precepts into practice. Robert Pelkey Living the Word, by Kelsey Garman, is a thoughtful, scholarly practical devotional study of Psalm 119. The newest Christian or the most mature Bible student will benefit from reading this book. It speaks to both the heart and the head in a most practical manner. The Appendix, “How to get the most from your Bible Reading,” remains very relevant today, though originally written by Thomas Watson in the 17 th century. Dr. Bill Dowell, professor Living the Word, is a devotional commentary on Psalm 119 offering in unusual clarity, an eminently practical guide on how to get serious about walking in harmony with God and His Word. It is at once didactical, sermonic and poetic – a psalm within a psalm. It is scholarly and well written – a pleasant challenge to study and meditate, and a must read! Will Hawkins, MD I’m halfway through the wonderful book, Living the Word, and I am excited to glean the thoughts and intents of King David as he wrote Psalm 119. Kelsey does a fabulous job of breaking each verse down to make the full meaning so clear. Kelsey, through his Preface and Introduction to the book, has challenged me to not only to read the psalm, to meditate on it and apply it, but to memorize it. With God’s tremendous help, I have memorized the first 83 verses. I hope to complete it by the end of the year. With God’s help, yes, even YOU can memorize this wonderful psalm. Get this book and not only memorize Psalm 119, but begin “Living the Word.” Bob Marette, Author |
